Just why the blood-vessels of the brain in general, and of one part of the basal ganglia in particular (the _Lenticulostriate_ artery in the internal capsule of the _corpus striatum_, the old jaw ganglion), are so liable to rupture we do not know; but it certainly is chiefly from a defect of the blood-vessels, and not of the brain.
The "striped" maple (_Acer striatum_) is also much relished by the moose-- hence the name "moose-wood," by which this tree is known among the hunters.
There is one species of the last of which he is extremely fond; it is that known as striped maple (_Acer striatum_), or, in the language of hunters, "moose-wood." He peels off the bark from old trees of this sort, and feeds upon it, as well as upon several species of mosses with which the arctic regions abound.
This structure is one mass, called anteriorly the corpus striatum, or striated body, and posteriorly the optic thalamus or bed of the optic nerve, though the optic nerve has its principal origin in another part, called the optic lobes.
