Sentences with SPHENODON (5)
The Hyperodapedon has been shown by Professor Huxley to be a terrestrial reptile having numerous palatal teeth, and closely allied to the living Sphenodon of New Zealand.

SPHENODON, sf[=e]'n[=o]-don, _n._ a genus of South American fossil sloths; a genus of extinct New Zealand lizards.--_adj._ SPH[=E]'NODONT.
The same foramen and an additional ectepicondylar foramen are found in the ancient reptilian type _Hatteria_ (_Sphenodon_); it occurs also in the Anomodont reptiles.
The sloths were more numerous, being represented by the extinct genera _Cælodon_, _Sphenodon_ and _Ochotherium_, the last of large size.
