KINDS OF UNITY.—(_a_) The unity we have been describing has been called _transcendental_, to distinguish it from _predicamental_ unity—the unity which is proper to a special category of being, namely, _quantity_, and which, accordingly, is also called _quantitative_ or _mathematical_ unity.
From the transcendental plurality or multitude which we have just described we can distinguish _predicamental_ or _quantitative_ plurality: a distinction which is to be understood in the same way as when applied to unity.
Like the logical relation it is referred to here in order to bring out, by way of contrast, the accidental or predicamental relation which is the proper subject-matter of the present chapter.
But what about substance or nature as a foundation of _predicamental_ relations? For these, as distinct from transcendental relations, some accident really distinct from the substance seems to be required.
