Now the Greek for seven, _hepta_, has only four characters, the aspirate being marked over the initial vowel.
The obvious explanation was that "hepta" had been deleted and "pente" substituted in every instance, and the fraud had not been detected because the rest of the Greek writing was absolutely genuine.
Etym: [Hepta- + -yl.] (Chem.) Defn: A compound radical, C7H15, regarded as the essential radical of heptane and a related series of compounds.
Above 39° C., however, the hexahydrate, with six molecules, is less soluble, and a rapid conversion of the hepta- into the hexahydrate occurs if the former is heated above the transition point.
