EVERSION OF THE EYELIDS (Ectropion), is a turning outward of the eyelids, and it may be congenital or acquired.
From weakness of the orbicularis palpebrarum muscle ectropion and epiphora may noticeably change the facial appearance.

You may treat encanthis with the remedies mentioned for ectropion, and similar caustic, or septic applications; but the whole substance must not be consumed, lest rhyas be produced, for it must only be reduced to its natural size.
Ectropion of the under lid is occasioned by the same causes as lagophthalmos of the upper, only that it does not occur naturally, but arises sometimes from relaxation produced by medicines possessed of this property, which have been applied for inflammation; and sometimes the eversion is occasioned by the suture or burning having been improperly performed.
