Diving beetle (Zoöl.), any beetle of the family Dytiscidæ, which habitually lives under water; - - called also water tiger.
The Dytiscidæ and Hydrophilidæ living in such places usually hide under stones, and can in most cases be easily picked up with the hand, or a little tin dipper or a spoon will be found convenient for catching them.
One or two species of _Itemosa_, a _Cymindis_, several representatives of the _Aphidiphaga_, one or two of _Dytiscidæ_, three or four _Cicindelidæ_—these are nearly all that I found.
