Another form is called the _pelote_, which is merely a ball of scraped lint tied up in a piece of linen rag, commonly called a dabber.

The polishing of the neck, or fingerboard with it, may be effected by making a small ball or dabber of about half an inch in diameter of fine grained flannel; this should be covered with another surface of closer material such as calico, but large enough to enclose the little bunch and to be tied up with a piece of string.

These surfaces rapidly absorb the polish, while the oil in the dabber allows it to pass over without clinging.

This will not make a black mark visible on the glass, it will only make a _grease_ mark, and that hardly visible, not enough to cut by; but take a soft dabber--a lump of cotton-wool tied up in a bit of old handkerchief--and with this, dipped in dry whitening or powdered white chalk, dab the glass all over; then blow the surface and you will see a clear white line where the whitening has stuck to the greasy line made by the transfer paper; and by this you can cut very comfortably.

Take up a very little color on the dabber, and work it about on the center of the paper for some time, till the dabber is evenly covered with a thin coating.
