The teledu of Java (_Mydaus meliceps_) is the worst of the family in this respect, and almost equals the skunk.
The Malay badger (_Mydaus meliceps_) is confined to the mountains of Java (where it is called the teledu), Sumatra and Borneo.
All these animals--the Javanese teledu excepted--have long tails; some of them, in fact, being very long and very bushy--a characteristic altogether wanting to the bears, that can hardly be said to have tails at all.
This animal has an upturned snout, which is described as closely resembling that of _Mydaus_, the Teledu.
The general appearance of the animal is decidedly Badger-like; it has, in fact, a good deal of resemblance both to the Ratel and to the Teledu.
