Frank, Albert Bernhard (1839-1900): began his botanical career as Curator of the University Herbarium, Leipzig, where he afterwards became Privatdocent and finally "Ausserordentlicher Professor." In 1881 Frank was appointed Professor of Plant-Physiology in the Landwirthschaftliche Hochschule, Berlin.
After supporting himself for some years by private teaching, he removed in 1822 to Bonn, where he held the position of privatdocent.
After acting as _Privatdocent_ at Leipzig, he was, in 1812, appointed professor extraordinarius of theology at Jena, where he remained to the end of his life, rising gradually to the head of the theological faculty.
During the truce of 1849 he qualified as _Privatdocent_ at Kiel, but on the fresh outbreak of war he returned to the troops and was promoted to the rank of senior surgeon.
Owing to shyness and weak health Gellert gave up all idea of entering the ministry, and, establishing himself in 1745 as _privatdocent_ in philosophy at the university of Leipzig, lectured on poetry, rhetoric and literary style with much success.
