Sentences with IHS (5)
For twelve hundred years they that resemble thee have afflicted the hapless _Sh_í’ihs in the pit of vain fancies and idle imaginings.
That holy man, Ṣádiq,(62) in his eulogy of the Cherubim, saith: “There stand a company of our fellow-_Sh_í’ihs behind the Throne.” Divers and manifold are the interpretations of the words “behind the Throne.” In one sense, they indicate that no true _Sh_í’ihs exist.
After some days of anxious investigation and study, Mullá Ḥusayn became firmly convinced that the Messenger long expected by the _Sh_í’ihs had indeed appeared.
The _Sh_í’ihs identified this Mihdí with the 12th Imám(9) who, according to their beliefs, had mysteriously disappeared from the sight of men about a thousand years previously.
The majority of the _Sh_í’ihs hold that the twelfth Imám, called by them the Imám Mihdí, disappeared as a child into an underground passage in 329 A.H., and that in the fullness of time he will come forth, overthrow the infidels and inaugurate an era of blessedness.
