The water-feed should always be so disposed that the attendant can see at a glance which of the two (or more) carbide receptacles is in action at any moment, and it should be also so designed that the supply is automatically diverted to the second receptacle when the first is wholly exhausted and back again to the first (unless there are more than two) when the carbide in the second is entirely gasified.
