Sentences with EREB (4)
Arabia may be called "Eretz Ereb" (or "Arab")=land of the West; but in Arabic "Gharb" (not Ereb) is the Occident and the Arab dates long before the Hebrew.
All the land which lay to the west they called _Ereb_, which was their word for "sunset," or "west," and the land to the east they called _Acu_, which meant "sunrise," or "east;" and later, when men knew more about these lands, these names, changed a little, remained as the names of the great continents, Europe and Asia.
Liddell and Scott consider [Greek: Erebos] (the nether gloom) to be derived from [Greek: erephô], to cover; akin to [Greek: eremnos], and probably also to Hebrew _erev_ or _ereb_, our _eve_-ning; and mention as analogous the Egyptian Amenti, _Hades_, from _ement_, the west.
These refer to the seven Rounds and the seven Races with a distinct “creation” in each; though the use of the words Boker, “dawn” or “morning,” and Ereb, “evening twilight”—which have Esoterically the same meaning as Sandhyâ, “twilight,” in Sanskrit—have led to a charge of the most crass ignorance of the order of evolution.
