Etym: [Iso- + dulcite.] (Chem.) Defn: A white, crystalline, sugarlike substance, obtained by the decomposition of certain glucosides, and intermediate in nature between the hexacid alcohols (ductile, mannite, etc.) and the glucoses.
The author, in 1914, commenced the differentiation of the types by means of dulcite and saccharose and obtained the results shown in Table XVIII.
Although glucose is the commonest sugar present in glucosides, many are known which yield rhamnose or iso-dulcite; these may be termed pentosides.
