The doorcase on the front towards Guildhall is of stone, adorned with two columns, entablature, and pediment of the Doric order.
Paul, with books, &c., lively represented by the same hand as “The Conversion.” On the south side of the church, near the west end, is a forum or portal, the doorcase being enriched with cartouches, volutas, and fruit, very excellently carved under a pediment, and opposite to this on the north side is the like doorcase.
Marble was bought for the doorcase, and the door itself was studded with 95 bronze nails, which were gilt, as were also the ring and knocker, and the frame of trellised ironwork (_cancellus_), which hung within the outer door.
The doorcase is doubtless that made in 1476; but the door, with its gilt nails and other adornments, has disappeared.
