The creature which forms the subject of this paper is the giraffe, or camelopard (_Camelopardalis Giraffa_) noted for its wonderful and beautiful form and its remarkable habits.
Very interesting is the occurrence of a species of giraffe (_Camelopardalis_) as tall as the African species but more slender; and also an extinct genus _Helladotherium_, not quite so tall as the giraffe but much more robust, and showing some approach to the Antilopidæ in its dentition.
The larva is known to have been ejected from monkeys (_Cercopithecus albogularis_, _Cynocephalus maimon_), from the giraffe (_Camelopardalis giraffa_), from a species of hyæna (_Proteles cristatus_), and should be expected to occur frequently in smaller mammals which have been swallowed by African serpents of enormous size.
