CEROXYLON ANDICOLA.--The wax palm of New Grenada, first described by Humboldt and Bonpland, who found it on elevated mountains, extending as high as the lower limit of perpetual snow.
One of the loftiest and most beautiful of the palm-trees--_the wax-palm (Ceroxylon Andicola_)--grew in these very parts, for the lower slopes of the Andes are its favourite habitat.
One only of these tropical children of nature, the _Carosylou Andicola_, is met with far in advance of the rest of its tribe, tossed by the winds at the height of seven and eight thousand feet above the sea, on the middle ridges of the Cordillera range.
The _Ceroxylon andicola_, a lofty palm growing in the Andes of Bogotá, produces a resinous wax which is secreted in its stem and used by the inhabitants of the country for making candles and for other purposes.
